Autobiography of Chief Emy Afam Ojuederie

 

Chief Emy Afam Ojuederie, an Ohowore of Ovu, Agbon Clan, in Delta State, was born on 4th January, 1952, as the seventh child of the late Chief Butler Jighere Ojuederie.

He had his primary education at All Saints Primary School, Asaba. He was a pioneer student of St. Michael’s College, Ogwashi-uku, before relocating to Warri and attending Midwest College, Effurun. He attended Federal Government College (FGC) Warri for his higher school certificate and attended the prestigious University of Ibadan for his 1st degree.

He taught briefly at St. Bridget’s College, Asaba, and James Welch Grammar School, Emevor, after his HSC in 1972.  He served with the Anambra State Police Command as a police public relations attaché during his NYSC and had a one-year stint afterwards as a teacher at the Federal Government Girl’s College, Kazaure.

He joined the Nigerian National Shipping Line (NNSL) in 1978 as a management trainee and had the privilege to be in the UK and tour the continent at the time. He rose through the ranks of Conference/Task Officer in 1979 to Agency Officer in 1980 before transferring his services to The Associated Ores Mining Company, Itakpe – Okene, Now National Iron Ore Mining company in 1981, where he rose to become The Head, Personnel and General & Welfare Services Division as well as the Lagos Liaison Manager. He joined the Default Delta Boatyard Ltd in 1992 as Company Secretary/Administrative Manager and was appointed Acting General Manager in January, 1997 and was confirmed as General Manager in August, 1997 at which time it had become known as The Warri Boatyard Ltd.

He became a Member, Area Customary Court Isiokolo after leaving the Warri Boatyard Ltd and finally Retired as Director Personnel, Administration & Protocol in DESOPADEC (Delta State Oil Producing Area Development Company).

During the course of his life and career, he attended various administrative and developmental courses both within and outside Nigeria and was a member of the Institute of Personnel Management and the Nigerian Institute of Management. He was married to (the late) Mrs. Rosemary Nwakaego Ojuederie in April, 1973, until she passed on in June, 2012, and they had 4 children together: Mrs. Marian Eseoghene Ugeh, Ms. Emma Ifesiokwu, Mr. Emy (Jnr.) Ojuederie, and Mrs. Emilia Nasir. He remarried Deaconess Mrs. Erem Onokuma Ojuederie in November 2023 and lovingly welcomed her 2 children into the family. He was blessed with 7 Grandchildren. He was the secretary of The Ojuederie / Urevbu Family until his passing, a responsibility he gave his all until his call to his heavenly home. His hobbies were travelling, listening to music, watching football matches, watching movies with his family, and playing table tennis. He also loved boat cruises, picnics, and adventure-style outings with family and friends. He was the life of the party and had MC’d willingly and wholeheartedly a lot of the family events, including weddings of a lot of his nieces and nephews. He had a distinctive smile, was very warm and welcoming with a heart of gold, and was well loved by everyone who knew him.
